Monolith, Firespitter and Revenge Tower at a glance

  • Monolith upgrade cost: 1,480,000 Dark Elixir and 50 days to build it and reach level 5. The two TH18 supercharges add 420,000 Dark Elixir and 12 days.
  • Firespitter: 64,000,000 Gold and 33 days 12 hours for one Firespitter to level 3. You get two at Town Hall 17, so a full set to level 3 costs 128,000,000 Gold.
  • Revenge Tower: 890,000 Dark Elixir and 27 days 5 seconds to level 2. It unlocks at Town Hall 18, and you get one.
  • Supercharges: All three can be supercharged at Town Hall 18, but only after the normal max level.
  • All numbers are base values, before Gold Pass, Hammer Jam or Builder Potions.

How to Use the Defense Calculator

The calculator starts on the Monolith upgrade cost. Pick a different defense if you need one. Then choose your Town Hall. The calculator only shows the levels your Town Hall allows.

Set the current level and the target level. Use LV0 if you have not built the defense yet. SC1 and SC2 are the supercharge levels after the normal max.

You can also set how many buildings you upgrade and how many builders you use. Turn on Gold Pass, Hammer Jam or Builder Potions to see the boosted cost and time. Add a plan to the queue to plan several upgrades in a row.

Monolith Upgrade Cost and Time

The Monolith unlocks at Town Hall 15. You can build one. It shoots one target at a time, and every shot adds extra damage based on the target's max hitpoints. This makes it very strong against Heroes, Golems and other tanks.

Each Town Hall raises its max level by one: level 2 at TH15, level 3 at TH16, level 4 at TH17 and level 5 at TH18. The full Monolith upgrade cost from building to level 5 is 1,480,000 Dark Elixir and 50 days of builder time. The level 5 upgrade alone costs 470,000 Dark Elixir and takes 15 days.

At TH18 you can add two supercharges for another 420,000 Dark Elixir and 12 days, which makes the full Monolith upgrade cost 1,900,000 Dark Elixir. The table shows every step, the hitpoints and the base damage per second.

Firespitter Upgrade Cost and Time

The Firespitter unlocks at Town Hall 17, and you can build two. It fires bursts of fireballs in a wide arc in front of it and hits both ground and air units. Its range is 16 tiles. You choose which way it faces when you place it, so its position in the base matters.

The Firespitter is the only one of the three that costs Gold. One Firespitter from building to level 3 costs 64,000,000 Gold and takes 33 days 12 hours. Level 3 needs Town Hall 18.

The two supercharges add 26,000,000 Gold and 14 days per Firespitter. Maxing both Firespitters with both supercharges costs 180,000,000 Gold. With one builder that is 95 days of work; two builders can do it in half the time.

Revenge Tower Upgrade Cost and Time

The Revenge Tower unlocks at Town Hall 18, and you get one. It stays quiet at the start of an attack. It wakes up as the attacker destroys buildings: stage 1 after 5 buildings, stage 2 after 25 and stage 3 after 50. Each stage shoots faster, and later stages bounce to extra targets.

Building it and upgrading to level 2 costs 890,000 Dark Elixir and takes 27 days 5 seconds (the build itself is 13 days 5 seconds). After level 2, two supercharges add 420,000 Dark Elixir and 15 days, so the full Revenge Tower takes 42 days 5 seconds.

How Supercharges Work on These Defenses

A supercharge is an extra upgrade for a defense that is already at its max level. On these three defenses you can do it only at Town Hall 18.

Each defense here has two supercharge levels. In our data, Supercharge 1 raises the damage and Supercharge 2 raises the hitpoints. A supercharge uses a builder, just like a normal upgrade. Hammer Jam does not help here: Supercell's rules for the current Hammer Jam say supercharges get no cost or time discount.

Supercharges are temporary. When Supercell releases a new normal level for a defense, all supercharges done on that defense are removed and it loses their boost. So supercharge only when your other key upgrades are done.

DefenseNeeds firstSupercharge cost (both)Supercharge time (both)
MonolithLevel 5420,000 Dark Elixir12 days
FirespitterLevel 326,000,000 Gold14 days
Revenge TowerLevel 2420,000 Dark Elixir15 days

Supercharge costs are per building. Firespitter totals double if you supercharge both.

New to TH18? What It Costs to Max All Three

When you move up from Town Hall 17 with a maxed base, your Monolith is at level 4 and both Firespitters are at level 2. So the Monolith upgrade cost left is only the last level and the supercharges. The Revenge Tower is new. Here is everything left to do, including all supercharges.

UpgradeCostBuilder time
Monolith, level 4 to Supercharge 2890,000 Dark Elixir27 days
Two Firespitters, level 2 to Supercharge 2110,000,000 Gold58 days (29 each)
Revenge Tower, build to Supercharge 21,310,000 Dark Elixir42 days 5 seconds
Total2,200,000 Dark Elixir + 110,000,000 Gold127 days 5 seconds

Here is one example plan with two builders: one builder does the Revenge Tower and then the Monolith (69 days 5 seconds), and the other does both Firespitters (58 days). Everything is done in 69 days 5 seconds. More builders or Builder Potions can make it shorter.

With a 20% Gold Pass during Hammer Jam, the cost and time of the normal levels drop to 40% of the base value. The supercharges do not get the Hammer Jam discount, so the full total does not drop to 40%.

These are base values. Your own total is lower if you already started some of these upgrades.

Which Defense Should You Upgrade First?

This question comes back every time you reach a new Town Hall, so here is a simple way to decide. Think about which resource each upgrade uses and what else needs it.

  1. Monolith first. The Monolith upgrade cost is low next to Hero upgrades, and it is your best answer to Heroes and tanks. You have had it since TH15, so it is often the defense that is most behind.
  2. Firespitter next, when Gold is free. It uses Gold, so it does not slow down your Heroes. Start it when your storages are full and walls can wait.
  3. Revenge Tower after that. It needs Dark Elixir, the same as your Heroes and the Monolith. Plan it around your Hero upgrades so you never leave a builder idle.
  4. Supercharges last. They give smaller gains than normal levels. Do them when other key upgrades are finished, or when a builder has nothing better to do.

Upgrading a defense does not hurt your Clan War base. In war, the defense still works at the level it had before the upgrade started. In normal multiplayer attacks it is out of action until the upgrade is done.

My order on MoonLight ID #9280QPL8G:
On my Town Hall 18 account, the Monolith is maxed at level 5, both Firespitters are maxed at level 3 and the Revenge Tower is maxed at level 2. I maxed the Revenge Tower first, then the two Firespitters, and the Monolith last.

This is not the order in the list above. The Revenge Tower was the new main defense at this Town Hall, so I wanted it working first. My Monolith was already at level 4 from TH17, so it needed only one more level and could wait.

Monolith, Firespitter and Revenge Tower FAQ

Building the Monolith and upgrading it to level 5 costs 1,480,000 Dark Elixir and takes 50 days. The two supercharges add 420,000 Dark Elixir and 12 days, for 1,900,000 Dark Elixir and 62 days in total.

You unlock the Monolith at Town Hall 15. Each new Town Hall adds one level: level 2 at TH15 and level 5 at TH18.

Two. Both unlock at Town Hall 17, where they can reach level 2. Level 3 needs Town Hall 18.

Gold. The Monolith and the Revenge Tower use Dark Elixir.

It starts after the attacker destroys 5 buildings. It gets stronger after 25 and again after 50 destroyed buildings.

No. Supercharges for all three defenses need Town Hall 18 and a defense at its normal max level.

If you start TH18 with a maxed TH17 base (Monolith level 4, both Firespitters level 2), the rest costs 2,200,000 Dark Elixir and 110,000,000 Gold, and takes 127 days 5 seconds of builder time without boosts. The example plan on this page uses two builders and finishes in 69 days 5 seconds. More builders or Builder Potions make it faster.

No. The tables show base values. Use the calculator at the top of the page to add Gold Pass, Hammer Jam and Builder Potions. Remember that Hammer Jam does not reduce supercharges.
