Barbarian King Max Level by Town Hall

A new Town Hall raises the King's cap only after you upgrade the Hero Hall to match. The table shows the Dark Elixir and builder time to climb from one cap to the next, so you know what each Town Hall will cost your King before you start it.

Where the Dark Elixir Goes

From TH7 to TH11 the King is cheap: reaching level 50, which is 49 paid upgrades, costs 1,626,500 Dark Elixir and 83 days. The remaining 60 levels, 51 to 110, take about 13.6 million Dark Elixir and 320 days.

TH12: the first big bill

Fifteen levels at once, 51 to 65, for 1,490,000 Dark Elixir and 50 days. It is the longest single step until TH18.

TH14 costs more than it looks

Levels 76 to 85 cost 1,805,000 Dark Elixir. That is 5,000 more than the TH17 step, and each of those ten levels is still only 4 to 5 days, so the King comes back to attacks quickly between them.

TH18: ten levels instead of five

TH15, TH16 and TH17 each add five levels. TH18 adds ten, from 400,000 Dark Elixir at level 101 to 490,000 at level 110. Save Dark Elixir during TH17, so the King does not wait on your storage once the Hero Hall is ready.

King vs Queen: Where the Cost Differs

The King and the Archer Queen share almost the same upgrade table. Both take 403 days from level 1 to 110, and most levels cost the same Dark Elixir. The difference sits in seven levels:

The King also starts earlier. He unlocks at TH4 and can reach level 20 at TH8, while the Queen unlocks at TH8 with a cap of 10. Compare her costs on the Archer Queen upgrade cost page.

Finishing the King with Boosts

Many TH18 players have a King a few levels short of 110. Here are the last four levels, 106 to 110, with the boosts the calculator supports. Gold Pass and Hammer Jam reduce both cost and time.

The two boosts multiply: 20% off, then half off, leaves 40% of the base. Set your own levels in the calculator above to include Builder Potions.

Before You Start a King Upgrade

  • Keep one strong hero free for war. An upgrading King can't attack in Clan War or CWL. If the Queen is already upgrading, wait until the war ends.
  • Upgrade the Hero Hall first. Each King level needs a minimum Hero Hall level. The level table below shows it for every level.
  • Have the full cost in storage. Dark Elixir is taken when the upgrade starts.
  • Save Hammer Jam for level 96 and above. Those levels take 8 days and cost 340,000 to 490,000 Dark Elixir, so the half-price discount saves the most there.
  • Use a Book of Heroes on an 8-day level. Books are not in the calculator, but they save the most time on the longest levels.

On my TH18 account, MoonLight ID #9280QPL8G, my King is at level 106, so the last four levels still need 1,920,000 Dark Elixir and 32 days. I rarely leave him out of Clan War or CWL, so I upgrade him one level at a time in the last week of the month. I finish that level with the Book of Heroes from the Gold Pass, plus a second one from Clan Games when the event rewards include it. A Hammer of Heroes from the League Shop is my last resort.
